Judson E. Bennett, Jr.Director of the National Museum of the United States Army
In 2002, Bennett established the National Museum’s Project Office, a task organization responsible for development of the Museum campus which will include corps exhibit galleries, a Veterans Hall, a Memorial Garden, and a Parade ground. The Museum is also planning extensive education programs for all ages. Since 2002, under Bennett’s leadership, the project has rapidly developed into an organization of professionals from a multitude of backgrounds and diverse experience. Bennett joined the U.S. Army Center of Military History in 1982 as the Army Museum Information project manager. In March 1993, he was appointed chief curator of the Army and chief of the Museum Division. In September 2001, he became the Director of Army Museums and Chief of the Museum Division. Two years later, he formally was named the director of the National Museum of the United States Army. Bennett has a distinguished record of service related to the military. He served as a curator of collections at the U.S. Marine Corps Museum in Washington, DC, from 1975 to 1982 and spent 22 years in the Marine Corps Reserve, retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1993. As a radar intercept officer in the F-4 Phantom, he accumulated a total of 2,300 flight hours. Bennett is a 1969 graduate of the University of South Carolina where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Music Theory and Analysis. In 1982, he earned a master’s degree in Human Resources Management from Pepperdine University. |
