Never before and hopefully, prayerfully, never again, have we experienced such a wanton attack on the United States of America to this extent. Pearl Harbor was a tremendous loss of life and a huge loss of military might, but it was a military attack against our military forces. It brought us into a war which cost us the lives of so many to preserve our freedoms and our way of life. The attack on New York and Washington was that of a madman with a burning hatred for us, our way of life and our God. This too will bring us again into war, and once again those who proudly serve in our Armed Forces will be placed in harm’s way. It is a war we will win because we are Americans and we will fight for what we believe in. Never again, will we enjoy total freedom because of this terrible incident. Never again will we be able to board an aircraft without trepidation. Never again will we be, or try to be, an open nation accepting people for what they purport to be. These freedoms have been taken from us forever. We thought it could never happen here, but it did. And now we must recover, bury our dead, seek out those responsible, and effect justice. America is alive. America will not be defeated. God Bless America. William M. Voigt, President, National Veterans Day in Birmingham |
