National Veterans Day in Birmingham is a non-profit organization, formed in 1945, that has been recognized nationwide as one of the finest groups of its type, hosting the nation's oldest and largest Veterans Day celebration.

Each year, National Veterans Day in Birmingham salutes those men and women who have served their country as members of the armed services and those today who proudly wear the uniform of the active, reserve, and national guard forces.

A perpetual National Veterans Award was created in Birmingham for America's first official National Veterans Day observance November 11, 1954 as authorized by Congress. Its purpose is to honor an outstanding veteran in the United States each year who has made the greatest contribution to further the patriotic interest of veterans and veteran organizations throughout the country.

Annual Veterans Day events typically include an elaborate parade, a dinner honoring the National Veterans Award recipient, a World Peace Luncheon, and a Memorial Service.
